Most characters are voiced and have character portraits to accompany their dialogue, although the quality of the voice acting (and even voice recording) is somewhat hit-and-miss some voices are of truly professional quality (I particularly liked Prospero), but others suffer from cliché styles and (occasionally) poor recording quality. That's not to say they aren't ultimately archetypal and fairly simple (they are), but the archetypes they draw from are usually a bit more esoteric than those found in the QfG series, and some combine archetypes in vaguely nuanced ways. The other characters in the game are also a mite more interesting than those in the QfG series, at least in my opinion. This plot device serves as the equivalent of the snow-blocked path in QfG1, as it provides the explanation for why Roehm cannot just go back the way he came at the start of the game. You play William Roehm (mainly just called Roehm throughout the game), a roguish ne'er-do-well whose quest begins as a result of his flight from a neighboring county, after he is caught bedding the baron's daughter. The tone of the game is fairly light-hearted and funny, but also a bit raunchy (although still very much PG13).Īpart from that, I would say the biggest departure from the QfG series in terms of story is that your character actually has a name, voiced lines of dialogue, and his own personality. These can range from killing a villain rather than sparing their life to engaging in unscrupulous activity to generally just being a dick. Quest for Infamy is, as the title suggests, a sort of lampoon of the QfG series, in that the hero is really an anti-hero, and there are infamy points awarded during play for doing things that are unbecoming of a hero in the traditional sense. One final disclaimer: I played as the mage classes in both of my playthroughs, so my reviews are based on that, and do not reflect the full experiences of the games. This is the first of two reviews I'll be writing on a couple of point-and-click adventure games I recently played that are homages to the Quest for Glory games.
